Player Care & Athlete Welfare

Holistic support covering wellbeing, personal development, and life beyond sport.

Who We Are

Chance Partnership is led by Sophia Chance, a qualified mentor with over ten years’ experience supporting individuals in high pressure environments. Her work focuses on player care within professional sport, supporting athletes with the personal, emotional, and practical challenges that sit alongside performance.

Sophia brings extensive one to one experience working with people through pressure, transition, and change. In a sports context, this means offering calm, trusted support to players navigating expectations, uncertainty, and the demands of life in performance led environments.

The approach is individualised, non judgemental, and centred on the person behind the player. Chance Partnership works alongside agents and other professionals to provide an additional layer of care, while maintaining clear boundaries and respect for existing roles.

What is Player Care?

Supportive, individualised care shaped around your needs.

Player care exists to reduce pressure, improve wellbeing, and help athletes thrive as people, not just performers. There is no fixed pathway or programme. Instead, support is tailored to each player’s needs, circumstances, and stage of career, adapting as things change over time.

Wellbeing & Welfare

We place a strong emphasis on emotional wellbeing while managing the pressures that come with professional sport. Care is shaped around the individual and may change over time, offering space to talk openly.

  • One to one emotional support and regular check ins

  • Support around stress, confidence, and pressure

  • Guidance during difficult periods or uncertainty

  • Clear safeguarding processes and responsible signposting

Life & Personal Development

This pillar recognises that players are people first, with lives and identities that extend beyond the pitch. Support is personalised and grounded in the individual’s circumstances, values, and stage of life.

  • Exploring identity beyond football

  • Navigating change and transition

  • Support around family, relationships, and community

  • Building confidence, clarity, and decision making

Practical & Operational Support

Practical challenges can add significant pressure, particularly during periods of change. Support in this area helps reduce unnecessary stress by addressing the practical realities that sit alongside an athletes career.

  • Relocation and settling into new environments

  • Navigating day to day logistics

  • Support for families during periods of change

  • Helping create stability off the pitch

I’ve known Sophia for over a decade, and her humility and passion for giving back, especially to those less fortunate, is truly extraordinary. She lives by the principle of ‘what you do for others defines you,’ and it shines through in everything she does.
